Interim Deputy Director (August 2024 - October 2025)

Callie’s is a non-profit experimental institution founded for the purpose of fostering creativity, cultural exchange, and cross-disciplinary collaboration. Through residencies, exhibitions, and public programs, we strive to support local and international artists while becoming a resource for our immediate community. Callie’s operates in the spirit of inquiry; our activities are a form of research aimed at developing new models of social and artistic engagement.

Interim Deputy Director (August 2024 - October 2025)

This is a managerial position responsible for day-to-day operations, administration, and strategic planning at Callie’s, in coordination with the institution’s Director. The ideal candidate has experience leading a team and brings a communicative, proactive approach to their work. They thrive in a fast-paced environment and are excellent at prioritizing. They speak German and English fluently, can work both independently and collaboratively, and are able to commit to a full-time, on-site role, with flexibility so that they can help on the occasional evening if an event is scheduled.

Tasks and responsibilities include:

- Deputizes for the Director
- Supports the Director, including coordinating meetings, preparing documents, reporting, and minute-taking
- Manages a staff of four with weekly supervision and performance reviews; supports staff in their professional development
- Oversees the residency program
- Oversees all grant applications, including writing applications and delegating
- Manages recruitment, including interviewing, reference checking, etc.
- Supervises on-boarding of new staff members
- Reviews employment contracts, liaising with legal and accounting consultants as required
- Has overall administrative responsibility for Callie’s and its systems

Essential experience, skills, and attributes:

- Prior senior management experience in a museum, gallery, or cultural organization
- A proven ability to manage staff effectively and fairly, with the ability to delegate and support team cohesion; a commitment to employee wellbeing
- Highly organized with experience in implementing systems and the ability to plan, organize, schedule, and budget effectively
- Knowledge of arts funding and experience writing and monitoring grant applications
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Able to manage multiple priorities and work calmly under pressure and to deadline
- Excellent attention to detail
- Adaptable and willing to help out with any task, big or small
- Actively participates in the contemporary art world
- An understanding of and affinity with the mission, vision, and work of Callie’s
- Fluent in English and German

The position is accompanied with a German contract of employment from August 2024 to October 2025, with the possibility of extension, and comes with full benefits. The position is 40 hours/week, in person. Salary will be commensurate with experience.
